Come Walk Your Path
Invest in Yourself and Grow

be happy now Apr 23, 2018

Thanks for joining the “Come Walk Your Path: Invest in Yourself and Grow” community newsletter.

I will be sending a bi-weekly email providing valuable insights and tips about managing stress, the habits of high performers and the story of my personal journey as told in “Be Happy NOW!”

We all want to live a happier, stress-less life and find more success, meaning and purpose.  I will also occasionally send you valuable opportunities for your enrichment.

Eight years ago I started my journey inward – and I did not even know it at the time. I thought I was just going to try a new approach to weight loss and stress management.  Little did I know about the amazing discoveries and experiential learnings of a journey that makes the time to look inside ourselves at deeper and deeper levels of awareness.

My journey started with Wall Street ambition and the illusion of success, as I thought that happiness was found in making big bucks, owning a McMansion, and traveling the world. My course correction led to investing in myself and growing, as I discovered that the key to happiness is found on the journey within.

Where are you on your journey? We all have a story to share.

We all teach and learn from each other, if we are open to learn.

Walking a labyrinth is a wonderful metaphor for my journey and for all our journeys through life. Walking a labyrinth is a walking meditation, and you experience the journey. Everyone’s journey is unique. Everyone’s experience in walking a labyrinth is different, and it may be different every time you walk the labyrinth. There is an endless stream of new things to learn and experience in the cycle of life.

What the term “experiential learning” means to me is learning by doing and integrating the knowledge and emotions contained in both the conscious and subconscious minds. Consider the following quotation that simply and eloquently describes the process of experiential learning:

Learning is finding out what you already know.
Doing is demonstrating you know it.
Teaching is reminding others that they know
just as well as you.
You are all learners, doers, teachers.

Over the coming weeks and months and years, we will be sharing practical tips on how to manage stress, talking about tools such as Personality Type, learning about the habits of high performers, and exploring stories from my personal life lessons as detailed in my book “Be Happy NOW!: From Wall Street Ambition and the Illusion of Success, My Path to Happiness.”

This adventure will include everything and anything, from the mundane to the sublime, from the profound to the ridiculous.

I encourage you to join in and contribute your wisdom, your teachings and areas that you would like to discuss.

So let’s jump into the deep end. I want to share Robin Sharma’s short video interview on "The Purpose of Life." I was first introduced to Robin Sharma when a dear friend gifted me Robin’s book, “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari,” when I was leaving BankAmerica. I did not actually read the book until five years later. I next saw Robin Sharma at one of Brendon Burchard’s High Performance Academy seminars, where Robin talked about his trip to see and sense the prison cell which confined Nelson Mandela for 27 years. Robin’s talk was powerful, inspiring, and profound.  Currently I am learning more from Robin via his on-line course, “Think Like a Hero, Perform Like a Genius, Live Like a Legend,” a 66-Day Quest offered through MindValley. I am continuing to invest in my personal development and growth and am committed to being a life-long learner …. walking the walk. I invite you along on that walk.

I selected this video by Robin on “The Purpose of Life” because it echoes the purpose of this community newsletter – to invest in ourselves and GROW! Key messages I heard in Robin’s talk are:

  • It’s not about the Ferrari, the big house, or title.
  • It is about -- at the end of our life -- who have we become?
  • Did we make the investment to be our very best?
  • Did we do it not only for ourselves and for our family, but also to make the world a better place for all of us?
  • The #1 key to life is Growth.

Listen to Robin Sharma on "The True Purpose of Life" -- it is a 2 ½ minute investment of your time. I believe it will make you think and reflect on your life, your journey. https://www.facebook.com/mindvalley/videos/1668748519836820/?t=4.

As you will read in Be Happy NOW!, I have found my purpose. See Chapter 9, Page 123, “What is My Purpose?” I share my journal entry from that amazing morning etched in my memory:

"I recognize that I do not 'have’ a purpose. I do not know my purpose. I am my purpose. I am One with my purpose. Giving and Receiving are One in me.”

I truly hope and believe you will find your purpose on your journey. It is an amazing experience -- a priceless gift!

Next time our focus will be on Clarity – one of the first and most important habits of high performers. We will not be talking about Clarity with respect to what you do or what your goals are. We will be talking about Clarity about who you are, when you are your best self.

Thank you for joining this community newsletter. We will post every other Monday morning.

Till next time,

May you be happy now and always, Alison
